Return to Canada

Hi all!!!!

First, Thanks for a great season!!!! I appreciate you all so much for training with us!!! I am the luckiest man in the world! It is a true joy watching you improve in ski racing and in life skills. Patients, persistence, hard work, focus, positive attitude, and respectfulness! Keys to success in anything.

I guess some of you may have a few races left in April? After those are finished it is good to take a little time off to unwind after a long season. After that, perhaps starting in May it is time to start preparation for next season. I have never seen or met a fast ski racer that is not fast and strong. So it should be your goal to be faster and stronger! No matter what level you are at. Spring is a great time to improve your body's endurance. If you look on line there are many ways to do this. What age you are is a factor to how high you want your heart at during the training.

Good luck and work hard! I want to see all of you stronger for next season. If you improve your physical fitness you WILL have a successful 2016 2017 season!

Last day update!

Thanks for the great season!

It was challenging at times because of lack of snow, but many teams worked together and were able to achieve a lot!

Please work over the summer to improve your foot speed and strength. All fast ski racers are fast and strong!

Bye for now.

Last Day of GS

Another awesome spring day!

We trained with Sports Unity again today. It has been great this week! A good joint effort!

I really like how everyone is preparing before the start. Much better imagery preparation! Nice work!

I have noticed at the finish line most racers are skiing way to high of a line. 3 gates before the finish line you should be going as low as possible! Barely get past the last gate!

SL tomorrow! The weather looks to be good! A nice way to finish the season!

April 1 Update

Hi from Sugadaira,

We had a great day of training on Grand Prix at Omatsu Yama today. GS! There was a roll at the bottom of the GS set that made our training challenging. It was good to have the experience of turning while going over a bump though. Many stood up with arms out, going over it and ended up on the tails of their skis. A few were able to press their arms and upper body's forward maintaining center balance on the ski. Great job!

An important preparation point is at the start. I have noticed many racers just go in to the start after talking with their friends and start their run. No mental rehearsal of their run. It is vital to take time to see your desired performance before you start. Please take time to close your eyes and play a movie in your mind of the line you will ski and the powerful, clean, fast turns you will perform on that line. Be Prepared in as many ways as you can.

Bye for now!

Also, there is a lot of behind the scenes preparation done for our training. Miho Takasawa does it all so well. Great work!

March 14 Up date

Hi all!

More snow falling in Sugadaira! Under the new snow is ice though. Great conditions ! Over the weekend we had great training! Not a very big group so all had many runs! The Super G training really has helped everyone's GS. Better line and power going into the gate.

Speaking of line, a gentleman asked me " Doug I skied a high line but my time was slow." I asked" what was the set, and terrain like?" "Well it was flat and a simple set." If the set is straight you ski it straight! You match what ever the course gives you. Full power always, but your edging is always determined by snow conditions ,slope, and the set!

This week is early training. Lift starts from 7 am! SL tomorrow!

See you soon!

Hot day! SL trainiing!

A hot spring day! The SL training was good though. We used snow cement so the snow was hard! The group did well with their goals. They are really starting to fly! Fun to see! Looks like it is going to cool down again. We need it1 The snow has been melting too fast!

Super G training is scheduled for the weekend. The snow maybe icy so be ready for it.

Great results this past week end many wins and personal bests! Very proud of all of you!

Great support from Miho Takasawa! She has really done a great job to uplift the racers. Many great results at Naeba! Super!

I look forward to seeing you all soon!

Update!

Thank you everyone that came out for training this past weekend! The conditions were great!

Great improvement with skiing a clean, power, line. Some are still struggling with choosing too straight a line that blocks them from carving down the fall line into the gate! Getting closer though. Keep working at it! Good inspection, look ahead!

Race preparation if vital for a good performance. Have a plan for your day and commit to it! During the race there is no need to look for new advice on your technique. Advice about the course condition is always helpful though. Focus on your race and block everything else out. Have your own preparation area. Music or a meditation app is always helpful to relax and block others out from your preparation. There are more races this weekend for many! Good luck ! Have fun!

Today we had Combi training! The guys were flying! Great skiing! It did snow today! No rain! Lucky!

Monday GS

A fun day with with a kids group today! GS on #3. They did a great job on their goals for the day! Much higher line on the steep slopes and of course better power down the fall line to the gate!

Look who is jumping the highest!

Weekend Update!

It was a good weekend! Saturday's snow was icy! Good training! Saturday night it rained and then froze slightly for the morning. The ruts of the course were not smooth but chunky! Not the best conditions today, but the group did well to ski through it. Nice work !

I heard good race results from many. I am proud of all of you! I look forward to seeing you soon! Have a great week!

Mid week up date!

Hi!

It has been a great week so far! Mixed weather. Cold since the weekend, when it rained. So yes, the snow is icy now. It did snow yesterday so there is a soft layer on top of it. The rut should be very fast though. So please have your skis sharpened for the weekend.

We have trained 2 days of Super G. It was great! Even the adults took part. It is always a little scary if you are not use to the speed but a great experience! The group did great!

Sunny day today! SL training is scheduled. GS tomorrow.

See you soon!

Weekend Update!

Hi!

It was a hot weekend! We lost a lot of snow. It rained last night too. UGH! It will be cold from tonight so it should be very icy tomorrow for GS training! Just a small group this past weekend. Many went to watch the World Cup! I heard it was very inspiring to watch!

I am very proud our groups effort. Many have over come their challenges and have are moving forward! Great work!

I look forward to seeing you soon!

Today was our first day training Super G! The snow was soft so it was perfect for our first day. Slower speeds to start, but after a few runs we worked down to the ice! Fast rut!

Tomorrow we have the same schedule. Another sunny day so the conditions should be great!

See you soon!

New Snow! Yes, we received a big dump of snow last night. Today's GS training was good once we side slipped a good wide track! The base is hard so training is good!

Tomorrow is a holiday so we have 3 sessions. Super G from 8:30 to 10:30, GS from 10:30 to 12:30, SL from 2:30 to 4:30. It should be a great day! We look forward to seeing you soon!

Great conditions at Sugadaira!

Hi everyone,

The weather here has been beautiful and the snow hard. Great for training!

Last weekend was good too. Thanks for all of you that came to ski with us! We appreciate you all very much!

I have heard of good race results from many different racers. Great work! Some maybe did not get the results they wanted and are feeling down. It is always important to look at your race performance and see why you did not reach your goal. Be sure to learn from your mistakes or experiences! You can do it!

See you all soon!

In your mind see what you want. Be positive!

Sugadaira Update!

The conditions here have been amazing all week. Sunny but cool, Hard compact snow, smooth courses, great skiing from the group! I am very proud of everyone. Steady improvement. Skiing a higher line has helped many. I have also witnessed more power on the out side ski, in the right place! Around and down the fall line!

I would like to send a message that new comer racers are always welcome! We offer a safe, positive, environment for all ages to train in. It is a team atmosphere, where we all work together. We respect each other as team mates. Canadian style!

Hope to see you soon! Good luck to those racing soon! I believe in all of you!
